The Oak Tasar Silk Moth (Antheraea frithi) is one of Asia’s most majestic wild silk moths — a large, commanding species draped in warm earthy tones of tan, amber, and brown, with striking translucent eyespots that seem to glow when light catches them.
Native to the forests of India, this moth belongs to the celebrated Antheraea genus, the same family responsible for tasar silk — a rougher, more textured silk than that of other domesticated silkmoths , prized for centuries across Asia. Tasar silk production from this moth family dates back to commercial importance during the Han dynasty, around 200 BC. This is living natural history, beautifully preserved.
This museum-quality specimen is carefully mounted in a sleek black shadow box frame, with the common name, scientific name, and origin location labeled below. At 6x6 inches, it’s a sophisticated and conversation-worthy piece for any wall, shelf, or collection.
