Bold, fast, and breathtakingly beautiful, the White-Spotted Prepona is one of the most electrifying butterflies to come out of the American tropics. The upperside of the wings is dark and dramatically crossed by a broad band of iridescent blue-green , punctuated by crisp white spots that give this species its name. It’s a color combination that seems almost too vivid to be real — and it looks stunning displayed in this extra deep 9×9 shadow box frame, which gives the specimen a gallery-quality, three-dimensional presence on any wall.

Found from Mexico to Bolivia, the White-Spotted Prepona inhabits rainforests and humid deciduous forests from sea level up to about 1,500 meters. Known as one of the fastest butterflies in the forest, it can reach speeds of 30–50 mph — making a perfectly preserved, wings-spread specimen like this all the more remarkable.
